A Mutual Exchange is a swap of accommodation between or more tenants and relies on each tenant moving permanently into their exchange partner's property. A tenant cannot exchange into an empty property.
Most Seven Locks Housing tenants with an Assured Tenancy can usually apply for an exchange. Unfortunately, private tenants with Assured Shorthold tenancy agreements or leases are not eligible for an exchange.
You must not exchange or assign your tenancy without Seven Locks Housing’s written consent. Possession proceedings will be taken against any tenant who exchanges their home without permission. Any exchange partners must also have written consent from their landlords.
Before giving consent to an exchange, Seven Locks Housing must ensure that the tenants have met certain conditions:
Harborough Homesearch keeps a register of tenants wishing to exchange so you should contact them and give them your details as soon as possible.
www.harboroughhomes.org.ukMany tenants have found their exchange partners through friends and relatives or by placing postcards in shop windows. There are also some internet sites which may be able to help you to find a partner.
Before looking for an exchange partner you should speak to your housing manager to confirm that you are eligible for an exchange. They will also advise you about the type and size of property you are eligible for.
Once you have found an exchange partner you will need to contact your housing manager again to get the exchange process started and to obtain written permission to go ahead.
