When you moved into your home your Housing Manager would have identified the area of garden and ground that you are responsible for maintaining. However if you live in accommodation where there is what we call ‘communal gardens’ (which is common in sheltered housing schemes and some blocks of flats), this area is normally maintained by a contractor employed by Seven Locks Housing.
If you have responsibility for maintaining your garden then you must keep it in a tidy condition. Lawns must be cut, hedges trimmed and the garden should be cultivated to a good standard. If your garden is overgrown and there is no good reason why you can’t maintain it we may take enforcement action for breach of tenancy conditions.
However, if you are elderly or disabled, on a low income and have no one in your family who can help you with maintaining the garden, then you may be eligible for assistance under the Needy Tenants Garden Scheme – ask your Area Housing Manager if you are eligible to apply for assistance.
