LanguageHow can I get my home adapted to meet my needs?
Seven Locks Housing are committed to being able to keep you in your home for as long as possible by responding to your changing needs.
If you require an assessment for the installation of an aid or adaptation please speak to our Property Services Team on 01858 414500.
They will be able to tell you if an Occupational Therapist will need to visit you in your home to assess your needs or if one of our surveyors is able to carry out the assessment.
If it is necessary for an Occupational Therapist to assess your needs, we will refer your request to Leicestershire County Council Social Services. Alternatively you can contact them directly on 0116 305 0004.
Typical minor adaptations carried out by Seven Locks Housing include the following:
- Fitting lever taps
- Fitting a half step
- Fitting internal and external hand rails
- Fitting a key safe to the outside of your property
For minor adaptations costing £1000 or less, generally without the need for a Leicestershire Social Services referral, the works will be carried out within 28 days.
Typical major adaptations carried out by Seven Locks Housing include the following:
- Installing a level access shower
- Making your home wheelchair accessible
- Stair lifts, step lifts and vertical lifts
- Ramps, paths and hard standings
Upon receipt of a Social Services referral major adaptations generally costing more than £1000 are completed within 20 weeks. More complex adaptations may take a while longer.
What happens next?
If required, once we have received your referral from Social Services, we will acknowledge your application within 10 working days.
Once we are able to proceed with your adaptation we will contact you to check that the work is still required and that your situation has not changed. The contractor carrying out the works will visit you at least 7 days prior to the works commencing, they can answer any questions you may have about the work.
Once the adaptation has been completed we will carry out an inspection to make sure that the work has been completed to the standard required.
What if it's not possible to adapt my home?
It may not always be reasonable or indeed possible to adapt your home to your specific needs. If this is the case we will try to find you another suitable home to move to. This can be done by:
- Exchanging with another tenant ('mutual exchange')
- Transferring to another home
