What if i get in arrears?

What if i can't pay my rent?

If you are having difficulty paying rent you may be entitled to housing benefit, for example if your income has been reduced, if you are off work because of illness, your hours have been cut or you have been made redundant. It is often worth contacting Housing Benefit to find out whether it is worth applying if your circumstances change.

This link will take you to Harborough District Council’s calculator to assess whether you might be entitled to benefit. http://www.harborough.gov.uk/wbc/

What happens if I don’t pay my rent?

As soon as you realise that you have a problem, contact your area housing manager in order to reach an agreement to make regular payments.

In normal circumstances

If you contact us early, agree a plan to pay the debt, and stick to this plan

We will work with you to avoid you facing court action.

However, if you fall behind with your rent payments and don’t contact us to negotiate a payment plan, Seven Locks will have to take you to court. The judge can then give us an order to evict you from your home.

The most important thing is to get in touch with us, the sooner you reach an agreement the easier it will be to clear the debt. The area housing manager will take into account your income and your outgoings so that the agreement is realistic and you will be able to pay the amount each week.
