The party was the idea of 3 of the kids: Miles Carter, Isobel Boothe and Jordon Buckley
The class was asked to come up with an idea for a project and they and the winning idea.
The 3 kids above organised it all. The rest of the class and staff made cakes, garlands, flags etc and decked out the communal lounge.
They presented the tenants with some reprinted souvenir newspapers from the war years.
Two kids read out letters from the time sent home from youngsters who had been evacuated.
They sang wartime songs with the tenants including "we'll meet again"
The students were fascinated by stories from the tenants including 87 year old Pat Wilson who has lived at Arkwright for 29 years, she was there with her carer Eileen Keohane aged 67.
Pat's family was bombed out of London during the blitz and they were evacuated to Broughton Astley, where they were taken in by her carer Eileen's family. Eileen and pat have been lifelong friends ever since, and the two families have kept the connection. They consider themselves the "adopted family"
Some of the other tenants were talking to the students about what it was like during the war years.
Isobel said "Listening to the tenants stories of the war years made her realise how lucky she is"
Miles said " he was surprised how each of the tenants had their own special story to tell about those years"
Jordon said "spending this time with the tenants has made him feel more confident talking to people"
Teacher: "Today has been a real success, coming to Arkwright House has sparked the student's interest and they have engaged really well with the tenants"
The students and staff offered to come back and put a Christmas party on for the tenants.
